Ceramic Coatings & Paint Sealants

Ceramic coatings are liquid quartz (silicon dioxide, SiO2) formulations that chemically bond with your paint's clear coat. This creates a hard, highly hydrophobic sacrificial barrier that repels water, road grime, and industrial fallout.

While ceramic coatings offer excellent paint protection, they are not a permanent "bulletproof" shield. Proper surface preparation and ongoing maintenance are essential for long-term performance.

How Ceramic Protection Actually Works

We believe in transparent explanations. A ceramic coating is an advanced micro-layer, but it operates under realistic physical laws.

The Advantages of SiO2 Layers

Once properly bonded, a quality ceramic formulation can assist in several key areas:

  • Hydrophobic self-cleaning: Rainwater beads up and rolls off, carrying away light surface dirt to simplify routine washing.
  • UV Oxidation Resistance: Protects your clear coat from sun fading and colour degradation.
  • Chemical Defences: Limits clear coat etching caused by acidic bird droppings, tree sap, and road salts.
  • Deep Gloss Enhancement: Fills microscopic surface imperfections, significantly increasing paint depth and reflective gloss.

What Ceramic Coatings Cannot Do

There are many myths surrounding ceramic coatings. For complete transparency, please keep the following in mind:

  • They are not scratch-proof: They cannot prevent deep stone chips or key scratches. Proper hand-washing is still required to avoid swirls.
  • They do not prevent water spots: Rainwater carries mineral deposits. If water drops evaporate on warm paint, mineral rings will still form.
  • They are not permanent: Coatings wear down over time. Actual durability depends on mileage, weather, and wash routines.
  • They require routine maintenance: Regular pH-neutral top-up washes are necessary to keep the ceramic pores clear.

Preparation is Everything

A ceramic coating will lock in whatever paint condition lies beneath it. If applied over swirls or scratches, those defects will remain visible under the protective layer.

To ensure proper bonding and maximum gloss, we carry out a meticulous preparation process on every vehicle:

1. Decontamination: Complete mechanical and chemical paint decontamination to remove iron dust, tar, and clay residues.
2. Machine Polish: At least a single-stage machine polish to clear swirl marks and ensure a highly reflective finish.
3. Alcohol Wipe: An intensive IPA panel wipe-down to remove all remaining polishing oils and fillers, ensuring a bare paint surface.

Important Durability Factors:

The longevity of your ceramic coating is heavily influenced by how your vehicle is used and stored. Garaged cars that are washed safely will see significantly longer protection than daily-driven cars parked outside under trees and washed at automated stations.
